JCSO has released a statement on Orosco murder

On Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at approximately 2:30AM, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a welfare check on an individual found lying on the edge of US Highway 96 South in Buna, Texas, just past Tractor Supply Company located at 35580 US Highway 96 S Buna, Texas 77612.

Upon deputies arrival, a male was discovered lying on the southbound shoulder of US Highway 96 and it was determined he was deceased. The victim had multiple gunshot wounds. The deputies were familiar with the victim from prior encounters, and he was identified as Arthur Logan Faver Orosco, 18

year old male of Buna, Texas.


During the early stages of the investigation, information was obtained through multiple sources that led to Investigators executing a search warrant at a residence in Buna where Orosco had recently been residing.


Evidence pertinent to the investigation was collected from this residence. Further investigation revealed that Orosco was in the company of Cody Dwayne Vann, 18 year old male of Buna, Texas on the night prior. Ultimately, it was discovered that Arthur Logan Orosco was shot by Cody Vann in the early morning hours of July 10, 2024 following a verbal altercation between the two.


Vann was subsequently arrested for the murder of Orosco and is currently in the Jasper County Jail on a $1 million bond set by JP6 Brett Holloway.


Sheriff Newman would like to congratulate his officers on a job well done. Although this incident is tragic, deputies were swift and thorough in determining the facts that led to Orosco’s murder and ultimately arresting the suspect.


This investigation is ongoing and further information cannot be released at this time.
