Jasper Student Earned Position in the ATSSB All-State Symphonic Band
Last week several Jasper High School band students were competing in the Area Round of All Region Bands. But one made it out and is going to STATE!!!
Jasper had four students who qualified to this area round of auditions this year and we are very proud of each of them. Alyssa Ellis on Euphonium, Adalynn Martinez on Flute, LeRaedrius Thomas on Alto Saxophone, and Micah Furlow on Baritone Saxophone. We are incredibly proud of each of them for their hard work, dedication, and the extra effort they put forth in preparation for these auditions. Each had very respectable auditions and finishes in their respective instrument panels.
The Jasper HS Band is proud to announce that Adalynn Martinez, a Junior flute player has earned a position in the ATSSB All-State Symphonic Band.
The ATSSB All-State Bands will meet in rehearsals in San Antonio, Texas, February 12-15, 2025, and will present a concert beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025, in the Lila Cockrell Theatre of the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center in downtown San Antonio.
Dr. J. Eric Wilson (Baylor University) will be the clinician-conductor of the All-State Symphonic Band which will premier a composition by Julie Giroux (commissioned by ATSSB for this concert)
CONGRATULATIONS to all our Area Qualifying students and again to Adalynn Martinez on this very special achievement.
We are so excited for Adalynn. Of all the students who start this process, only about 2% of the students achieve to this level.
She made the decision she wanted this for herself and has worked tirelessly to get herself to this level. It is a very competitive process.
The experience she will have in San Antonio is something most people can not even imagine. There are literally people from all over the country and world that will be in attendance at the convention, incredible musical performances, and interactions with colleges, universities, and their music faculty from around the country. Over the course of the 4 days of this convention, there will be approximately 30,000 people who attend at one point or another.
Head Band Director Jasper High School Russell Hopkins said that each year, thousands of students across the state of Texas begin learning the music and preparing for competitive auditions in 22 regions across the state. Initially these auditions are for places in the respective Region Bands. At the High School level though, this is also the beginning step in the All-State Band audition process.
Each region advances a set number of students for each instrument to the next level which is the Area Round of auditions. These Area auditions happen across the state in early January each year. There are 5 areas across the state arranged geographically, North, South, East, West, and Central. Today was the day for the Area round of auditions for all areas across the state.
Of the over 10,000 students who begin this process each year across the State of Texas, only 286 are ultimately selected for a position in one of the All-State Bands.
