Jasper County Sheriff's Report

Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard 3-11-25

It’s the end of my 10th week in office, and the time is passing by so quickly.  We continue to clean up the jail facilities and jail grounds and make needed updates.  Everything is looking a lot better.  I encourage the people of Jasper County to come tour the facility.

On March 4, 2025, the Jasper County Cowboy Church Chuckwagon Team treated the Jasper County Jail inmates and staff to a lunch of grilled hamburgers, fries, cake, and a cold soft drink.  The food was delicious and the fellowship was awesome.  Thank you so much to Brother Chet and his members.

On March 4, 2025, Texas DPS Troopers conducted a saturated patrol in our county.  They arrested 16 people in this two-day operation.  We want to thank our state and federal partners for helping keep our county safe.

On March 5, 2025, Derek Wayne Lynch, 47, of Jasper was arrested after the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a missing person report.  A deputy was sent to Mr. Lynch’s last known location.  When Mr. Lynch was located, it was discovered that he had a warrant for a parole violation.  He was arrested and brought to the Jasper County Jail.

On March 6, 2025, the US Marshal Fugitive Task Force, DPS, several deputies of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and I located Damon Mitchell Odom, 53, of Jasper, and apprehended him.  Mr. Odom was wanted for Felony Failure to Appear/Possession of a Controlled Substance from May of 2024.  Mr. Odom was brought to the Jasper County Jail.

On March 7, 2025, Wendy Street, 51, Kirbyville, was stopped in Buna for a signal violation.  The deputy identified signs of criminal activity, and the deputy received permission to search.  The deputy discovered 5 bags of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamines.  Mr. Street was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance (F2) and brought to the Jasper County Jail.

On March 7, 2025, The Jasper County Sheriff's Office received a tip regarding Justin Johnson, 35, of Buna.  Mr. Johnson had a Motion to Revoke Probation warrant for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.  A Jasper County Sheriff's deputy was deployed to the location he was believed be at. He was arrested and brought to the Jasper County Jail.

On the morning of March 8, 2025, I had the honor of being Parade Marshal for the Buna Redbud Parade. I’d again like to thank the Redbud Committee for this honor and our law-enforcement and firemen for making the parade safe and successful.  Additionally, I’d like to thank our jail trustees and JCSO Captain Joe Pomponio for all the hard work they did, from picking up trash to assembling stages.  They do a lot for the community during the festival.

On March 8, 2025, Jasper County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to CR 718 (off of Reese Road) in Buna regarding “shots fired”.  The deputy was advised that the suspect had left his mother’s residence and dispatchers gave him a vehicle description. The deputy located the vehicle a short distance away from the scene, conducted a traffic stop and detained Henry Meza, 38, of Evadale.  Mr. Meza had fired multiple shots, one of which was fired in the direction of his mother.  Mr. Meza was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm-Family Violence (F2) and Felon in Possession of a Firearm (F3.  He also had a warrant out of Jefferson County for DWI-3rd or more.

On March 9, 2025, an off-duty Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy observed suspicious activity at the Shell Station located at S.H. 62 and U.S. 96 in Buna.  There were three subjects in a vehicle with multiple containers of alcohol. An on-duty deputy arrived to assist.  One of the subjects, identified as Kaleb Marshall Crowell, 18, of Trinity, was initially detained for an alcohol violation.  Upon being searched, Crowell was found in possession of suspected MDMA/Ecstasy.  Crowell was arrested for possession of a Controlled Substance PG2>=4G<200G (F2) and was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

All persons listed in this report are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

I’d like to thank everyone for their positive feedback regarding how the work is being done here at the Sheriff’s Office.  We strive to make Jasper County a safer place to live. I say it today and every day, I appreciate all of the hard work being done by everyone involved at the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.  It’s an honor and privilege to be your sheriff. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to call us.

Respectfully,

Chuck Havard

Jasper County Sheriff
