The physical altercation lasted approximately 14 minutes.
The suspect was identified as being Michael Butch Brown, 41, of Jasper. Mr. Brown is a convicted felon and a handgun was found on the motorcycle along with other items associated with criminal activity. Brown was arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Tampering with ID numbers, Resisting Arrest, and several other charges. He was placed the Jasper County Jail.
Brown is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Being a law-enforcement officer can be a very dangerous job. Our deputies are often times by themselves and assistance can be many miles away in a large county like ours. Even though they are trained to de-escalate situations, there are times they put themselves in harm’s way to protect the citizens of Jasper County.
Sheriff Chuck Havard said that he is extremely proud of the men and women who wear the uniform of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
