Jasper County Chief Deputy Report
January 16, 2024
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born 95 years ago yesterday.
A determined and talented activist for human rights, his
leadership for change continues to influence society even today.
A martyr for justice, we could all learn from his character and strength.
Jack Frost seems to have made quite the showing throughout the
county and Southeast Texas this week. We are still under a hard
freeze warning issued by the NWS until 10AM tomorrow morning.
The lowest temperatures will be tonight and into tomorrow
morning.
Our prayers are with the Flurry family as they suffered the loss
of Selina Flurry Gilchriest in a tragic weather-related accident
on the Trinity River Bridge yesterday morning. This loss is felt
heavily throughout the county, as Selina was a Jasper native and
dedicated medical professional at Jasper Memorial Hospital for
many years, most recently receiving her MSN from Georgetown
University as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.
Hold your loved ones tight and treasure every moment.
We have 130 in our jail this morning. If you need us, give us a
call.
Scott Duncan, Chief Deputy
Jasper County Sheriff’s Office
