James Cagney Strickland July 2, 1943 - August 16, 2024

A Memorial Service for James Cagney Strickland, age 81, of Kirbyville, Texas, was held at the Methodist of the Pines Church on Sunday, August 18, 2024.   

James passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas in Beaumont, Texas.  He was formerly from Austin, Texas and resided in Kirbyville, Texas for the past 15 years.

James was a retired school teacher of the Austin Independent School District.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hiking, camping, climbing, and bicycling.  James was a deep environmentalist and was a member of the National Audubon Society and Sierra Club.  He volunteered for many organizations such as Boy Scouts, Lions Club and in many school districts.

He is survived by his son, Weston Strickland and wife Sara Best of Matthews, North Carolina; brother, Vernon Strickland of Houston, Texas and two grandchildren, Nolan Strickland and Ellie Strickland. 

James was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Opal Strickland.
