James Alford Parsons August 24, 1940 - September 7, 2024 U.S. Veteran

A Celebration of James Alford Parsons’ Life, age 84, of Jasper, Texas, will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2024 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home with burial to follow at Weeks Chapel Cemetery near Jasper, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the Funeral Home.


James passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at his home in Jasper, Texas surrounded by his loving family.


A native of Jasper, Texas, James was a 1957 graduate of Jasper High School. He joined the Marines and retired after 20 years of service. During his years of service, he received the Good Conduct Medal 6th award, Meritorious Mast four awards, three Purple Hearts, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Vietnam Cross f Gallantry.


After retirement from the Marines he moved to Jasper, working for Jasper County Sherriff, Aubrey Cole for two years before moving to Pasadena and working for the Harris County Sherriff for twenty years. After retirement from the Harris County Sherriff’s Department he moved back to Jasper.


James is survived by his sons, David Cain of Jasper, Texas and Billy Cain and wife Tammy of La Porte, Texas; daughters, Melissa Rutledge and husband Joe of Bandera, Texas and Heather Carroll and husband Chris of Jasper, Texas; sister, Betty Hayes and husband Steve of Jasper, GA; seven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Willie Parsons, wife of 36 years, Maxine Parsons; brothers, Percy and Rayford and grandson, Patrick Carroll.

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
