A Celebration of Ila Nell Harrison's Life, age 93, of Jasper, Texas, will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 7, 2025 with burial to follow at Little Hope Cemetery in Jasper, Texas. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Wednesday, august 7, 2024 at Stringer and Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, Texas.
Ila Nell passed away on August 3, 2024 at her home in Jasper, Texas surrounded by her loving family.
Ila Nell was born on April 11, 1931 to William Odie and Ila Vance Byery. She was saved at the age of ten, joined the Beech Grove Baptist Church in 1951 and Tanglewood Baptist Church in 1975. She attended Beech Grove Elementary and was the top student of sixteen, she graduated Jasper High School and was the fourth student out of sixty-six. She attended workshops and seminars at Lamar University, Sam Houston State University, Stephen F. Austin University and Southern Methodist University.
Ila Nell began her piano teaching career in home with one student in 1954, then in Spurger, Evadale, Buna and Beech Grove Elementary until 1963. Then in her own studio in Jasper until 1991, followed by the Episcopal Church School for two years before retiring in 1993. Ila Nell taught around 700 student.
Some of her accomplishment include the Sunday Radio Show on KTXJ in Jasper, secretary at KTXJ Radio, secretary to Robert Hillin attorney, secretary and bookkeeper for Hardy Hancock Hospital, Joe Wesley Dickerson, MD and William S. Sanders, MD.
She was a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers for over 32 years, Local Guild Chairman for 36 years, Selected into the National Guild Hall of Family, selected to represent American College of Musicians in People to People Delegation to Europe, Soviet Russia and South Pacific, Sabine Neches Valley Missions Development Council for 15 years, Sunday School teacher for Adult Ladies and Teens, PTA President for Beech Grove Elementary, Church Pianist and organist for 47 years and Church Choir Director for 1 year.
She was listed in Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who in South and Soutwest and Personalities of the South. Ila was a world traveler, having visited all fifty states and eighteen foreign countries. Most important of all was her love for God, Church and Family.
Ila Nell is survived by her grandson, Jody Marcus Harrison and wife Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Tracen Wyatt Harrison, Brexley Emma Harrison and Clara Rae Harrison.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Odie and Ila Vance Byerly; husband, Aubrey Harrison and sons, William Don Harrison and Marcus Aubrey Harrison.
The family would like to thank all of the family and friends, including the staff of Harbor Hospice that have helped us over the years.
