House fire in Kirbyville Monday night appears to be a complete loss

Sandi Saulsbury

Just before 8 pm Monday, the Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a structure fire at 211 North Elizabeth Street in Kirbyville. By the time the call came through dispatch, the home was already engulfed in flames.

There were some very stressful moments for firefighters, law enforcement and bystanders gathered at the scene as no one knew where Steve Riley, the man who was renting the home was. His bicycle, which neighbors said was his only means of transportation was in the backyard of the home.

However, at around 9:30, Riley finally arrived home only to find everything was destroyed.

He had been at Citgo when the fire started.
