Helen Ruth Whitehead August 20, 1927 - August 7, 2024

Helen Ruth Whitehead, 96, of Buna, Texas passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at her home.

She was born August 20, 1927, in Votaw, Texas to Sarah Ada (Sheppard) and Sidney J. Collins, she had lived most of her life in Buna and served in the United States Air Force as a nurse.

She attended the University of Houston where she received an Associate’s Arts Degree in Nursing. She was very proud of being a Registered Nurse and loved helping other people.

On June 6, 1949, she married Wilburn Whitehead and they were married for 69 years. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She loved being at home with her family and enjoyed cooking and taking care of her house.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband; brothers, Norman Collins and Herman Collins; sisters, Jewel Bruce and Vivian Hyatt.

Survivors include her children, Linda Stewart & Lionel of Beaumont, and Jimmy Whitehead & Jo Ellen of Buna; brother, Marvin Collins and Mary of Evadale; grandchildren, Brennan Whitehead and Coby Whitehead and Brooke; and 3 great grandchildren, Chloe, Piper, and Hoyt Whitehead.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Monday, August 12, at Adams EE Stringer Funeral Chapel in Buna with entombment at 2:00 p.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beaumont, Texas.  Visitation will begin at 11 am prior to service.
