UPDATE - HAZMAT Situation at Toledo Bend Dam

Photos from the scene have been provided by the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department, showing the response to this morning’s 18-wheeler accident in northern Newton County. Jasper emergency crews assisted with a reported hazardous materials situation.


At this time, official details about the wreck—including the cause, any injuries, and the extent of the hazmat response—have not yet been released.


The East Texas Banner is actively working to gather more information and will provide updates as they become available.


 

Original Report:

Just after 8:30 AM this morning, Jasper Fire Department was toned out after Emergency Management requested HAZMAT assistance at FM 692 near the Toledo Bend Dam.


An 18-wheeler carrying a hazardous chemical has reportedly overturned. The vehicle is confirmed to be leaking diesel fuel, though there is no confirmation at this time whether the chemical it was transporting has also leaked.


Toledo Bend emergency crews are on scene alongside Jasper responders, working to assess and contain the situation.


This is an active and developing incident. Please avoid the area and allow emergency personnel to respond safely.
