Four Kirbyville Jr High students won a competition to have artwork submitted to the YMBL South Texas State Fair

It's that time again. Time for the YMBL South Texas State Fair! Everyone loves the Fair; food, carnival rides and games, rodeo and the livestock show are all fan favorites! There are competitions for just about everything at the fair, including artwork.

Kirbyville Jr High art teacher, Ashley Berryman has submitted her students top 4 (the best of the best) pieces of artwork for the competition.

Berryman said, "My 7th and 8th grade art students worked hard on rodeo themed artwork for the YMBL South Texas State Fair for over a month. The top 25 were voted on by the teachers and staff and four talented students were chosen to represent Kirbyville. Their work will be displayed at the Beaumont fair."

The remaining pieces will be displayed around the community soon to recognize all of our top KJH artists.

Berryman, who has been teaching art at KJHS for 4 years, nine years total, said of her students, "It would be hard for a teacher to answer how they would measure success. I can tell you they won’t say it’s test scores. As an art teacher, this feels like the visual representation of success. I do not expect every student to be the same skill level, that is not success to me. However, witnessing these students push so far beyond anything they have personally ever created, and seeing them have pride in their work, that is the epitome of success for me!"
