"We Battle with Brennan!" Day
15-year-old Brennan Odom of Kirbyville has been battling 3x Acute Myeloid Leukemia since his diagnosis on March 17th 2020. His fight has been grueling and frightening on all levels, but he has braved on through every second of it.
The financial aspect of fighting any long illness can be devastating, but the community has always come together to help where they can. The community's most recent endeavor is happening today.
Wednesday September 25th has been designated as Fight with Brennan Day.
Brennan's mom, Mandi Odom said, "The Kirbyville Student Council and teacher, Kerri Reagan set this all up for Brennan to show him how much he is loved by his community!"
The t-shirts and labor were donated by Everything U in Jasper and the shirts were sold by volunteers everywhere!
100% of the proceeds go directly to Brennan and his family to continue on his fight. Mandi said, "We are extremely happy, grateful and we can't thank everyone enough!"
A bit about Brennan and his illness;
His diagnosis is 3x Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was diagnosed on March 17th 2020. Brennan required a bone marrow transplant if he was going to beat this thing. His dad, Douglas Arrant was a match and was able to be his donor.
On October 22, 2021, Brennan relapsed and needed a second bone marrow transplant. A match was found and on New Year's Eve of that year, Brennan received his second transplant. This time the donor was a complete stranger. Lauren Talicska from Ohio was more than happy to help.
Both times the cancer was aggressive. Sadly, Brennan has relapsed once again but at this time, it's only in his bone marrow but it is slowly building up.
Brennan has not started treatment yet and will only be taking a chemo pill to keep it at bay. According to his medical team, there is nothing more they can do for him. The reason for this is because he doesn't have kidney function and has End Stage Renal Failure from catching a simple cold. He unfortunately caught the cold of someone with a healthy immune system, but for him it was deadly. He has to do dialysis 3 days a week now.
The family has their good days and their bad days of course, but they are fighters and believers. Miracles are never out of the question.
