Updated information: Fatal accident this morning just South of Kirbyville on Hwy 96

Update:
An accident that occurred at around 8:45 this morning on Hwy 96, near County Road 619, has claimed the life of a Kirbyville man.
The Department of Public Safety Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 8:45 a.m., a 2017 Hino box truck was traveling north and struck the rear of a 2013 Chevrolet Impala, which was also traveling north. The impact pushed the Chevrolet off of the road and into a tree."
The driver of the box truck, identified as 61-year-old Mikal Jenkins of Beaumont, was transported to Baptist Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 76-year-old Marcellus Davis of Kirbyville, was pronounced deceased on scene by a Justice of the Peace.
This is an active and ongoing investigation, and no further information is available at this time.

ETB was at the scene of a fatal accident this morning on Hwy 96 South of Kirbyville. Law Enforcement and Rescuers are still on scene trying to figure out what happened.
All that we do know at this time is that it was a passenger vehicle and a box truck and at least one person has lost their life.
