UPDATED INFORMATION: Early morning wreck near Rayburn sent two to the hospital

Lake Rayburn Volunteer Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle accident on US 96 just north of the 1007 intersection early this morning.


The Department of Public Safety Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 5:44 a.m., a 2000 Ford Focus was traveling south, followed by a 2020 Dodge Charger. It is reported that the driver of the Dodge failed to control his speed and struck the rear of the Ford. After impact, both vehicles entered the west ditch where they struck multiple trees."

The driver of the Ford, identified as 22-year-old Jessica Hobson of Brookeland, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Dodge, identified as 18-year-old Chad Goss of Pineland, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
