Updated: Burkeville Fire Chief-"Took 57 minutes for Newton County Deputy to arrive"
Updated information:
The Burkeville Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a D.O.A or 'Dead On Arrival' at 10:40 am Thursday morning. They were assisted by Allegiance Ambulance Crew.
Burkeville VFD Chief said in a Facebook post, "Took 57 minutes for a Newton County Deputy to arrive (responded from Silsbee.) Totally uncalled for."
ETB spoke to Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby for a comment. "Our county is 80 or 90 miles long. We try to be there as quickly as we can in any situation. If he wants to ask me about it, he can call me. The Deputy was in Silsbee to pick up a vehicle that has been flooded last month. To get from Silsbee to Burkeville takes about an hour. It wasn't an emergency and the coroner didn't arrive until after the deputy did."
Burby added, "I checked the call logs and it actually took my deputy 40 minutes to get there. He was doing his job and if (he) has any questions about it, he can contact me."
