Driver struck several large hogs on Hwy 1005

Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department was on the scene of a single-vehicle accident on HWY 1005, just west of HWY 96 at around 9 pm tonight.

Public Information Officer Paul Rutledge said that the vehicle struck several large hogs in the roadway, but thankfully there were no major injuries reported.

This is a common issue in Southeast Texas. We have large forested areas where wildlife live. Very often they do wander in the roadways, causing accidents after motorist try to avoid hitting them, or actually do hit them. Either way, it often results in damage.

It is always the best policy to assure that vehicles have bright lights and drive slowly especially at night, scanning for wildlife.
