Burkeville and Hull-Daisetta students and some parents alike enter court during basketball game brawl

In what appears to be just one event in a history of conflicts between Burkeville and Hull-Daisetta High School sports, a brawl occurred last night during a basketball game between the two teams at Hull-Daisetta.
Speculation has spread throughout the Internet regarding a now viral video of the fight in progress. Many viewers noted that while a large number of students were fighting, at least one adult, a woman was seen repeatedly striking a young man in the face and head while he attempted to cover his face to protect himself. We have now verified that the boy is a 17-year-old Burkeville Junior.
We have attempted to acquire a copy of said video, but as of now permission has not been granted.
ETB has reached out to Superintendents of both schools who have each provided statements. We have also reached out to the Hull-Daisetta Police Department who again referred us back to the schools.
Burkeville Superintendent Gordon Thomas said, "Unfortunately we did have an incident last night. We are investigating on our end regarding the individuals that were involved." When asked about the woman who was seen in the now viral video 'allegedly' beating on the apparent teen, Thomas said that he had no further comment.
The Hull-Daisetta Superintendent, Tim Bartram released the following statement;
"The Hull-Daisetta varsity boys basketball team played Burkeville on February 11, 2025. At the end of the 1st quarter, a Burkeville player was ejected. Following the ejection, tensions rose and a physical confrontation occurred between players which led to spectators going onto the gym floor. Administrators, coaches and law enforcement helped to clear the gym floor. The game was then cancelled, Burkeville players and spectators were asked to leave the gym while the Hull-Daisetta spectators were asked to stay in place until the visitors cleared the gym.
Hull-Daisetta ISD is actively investigating the situation. The University of Interscholastic League (UIL), the District Executive Committee (DEC), and law enforcement were all notified of the incident.
Hull-Daisetta ISD is committed to providing our students and spectators a safe and secure environment. We regret this situation occurred, but we are diligently working with all parties to determine any disciplinary action that may need to be taken."

Bertram was also asked about the woman who 'allegedly' was seen on video assaulting a teen, however no additional information was given.
Additional information has been brought to our attention regarding the young man and the situation with the woman. We will revisit this event soon as additional information is verified.
