In a Facebook post, the school explained the situation as well as the plan moving forward. The post is as follows;
Hello Buna,
This evening, Tuesday, December 17th, we had to postpone our JH band concert due to numerous bats in the Activity Center. The discovery of approximately 30 bats was made just prior to the concert. As you well know, safety of our students and employees is always our number one goal.
We have a company coming out whose expertise is bat removal and sealing buildings. This will take some time due to being such a large area. We will close the Activity Center for the rest of the semester and for the holidays until the work is completed. We will then have the company seal the exterior of all the high school and Activity Center. We will then have the company go down to the elementary because bats move their colony to the next closest cavernous area. This is a large task because bats can fit through a gap the size of a #2 pencil eraser. We will monitor the rest of the academic wings of the high school and all campuses for bats over the next few days and in the coming weeks.
We apologize for the short notice of the postponement of the JH band concert. I am disappointed our kids didn't get to show what they have learned. Mr. and Mrs. McCarty will communicate the date and time for the rescheduling in the morning. We will ask our UIL basketball district to let us trade home and away sites for Friday nights' games scheduled at the Activity Center.
We thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have questions, please direct them to me.
Sincerely,
Bill Boyd
Interim Superintendent
