Buna bicyclist hit by a Mack truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries

Just after noon on Monday, a Buna man was struck by a Mack truck while he was riding his bicycle. The accident happened at the intersection of Hwy 96 and State Highway 62.

 

The Department of Public Safety Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 12:35 p.m., a bicyclist was traveling west on S.H. 62 alongside the highway. It is reported that a 2015 Mack truck tractor semi-trailer was making a wide left turn off Business U.S. 96, onto S.H. 62 and ran over the left foot of the bicyclist. After the bicyclist was struck, he reportedly suffered a seizure".


Jasper County Information Officer Karli Cherry said that the bicyclist was conscious and alert at the time of transport.

 

The bicyclist, identified as 45-year-old Jeremy Page of Buna, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

 

The driver of the Mack, identified as 54-year-old Franky Thomas of Bon Wier, was not injured.

 

This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
