Bulldog Bon Fire still on, but Burn Ban is too
The Jasper Bulldog Homecoming week is here and with the burn ban within the county, it was first said that the annual bon fire would not take place. However, Jasper County Judge Mark Allen says that due to the recent rains the bon fire will take place-but with some stipulations.
Jasper Superintendent John Seybold said, "We have spoken with Judge Allen, the city of Jasper, and the Fire Marshal, and it has been decided with our latest downpour, we are clear to have the bon fire if the weather permits. It is predicted to clear up by 4:00 or 5:00. Senior Parade, community pep rally, and Senior Bon Fire are on!!! Thank you all for your patience!"
It is very important to note that just because the bon fire will be happening, that does not mean that the burn ban is over.
When asked about the decision, Allen said of the break in protocol, "It is a one-time thing. There is a provision in the burn ban order that allows a government entity to conduct burning activities, provided that proper fire control measures are taken. There has been a good amount of discussion between Jasper ISD and the City of Jasper regarding precautionary measures to be taken, with a lot hinging upon the amount of rainfall received prior to the bonfire in the Jasper area. As I understand, fire apparatus from multiple local Volunteer Fire Departments will be standing by at the location during the bonfire and will fully extinguish it after the event has been completed."
GO BULLDOGS!
