A Thursday afternoon fire at a Jasper storage facility sent thick smoke billowing into the sky and triggered a swift, multi-agency emergency response.
The initial call came in at 12:03 p.m., dispatching the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department to Lunker Locker Storage, located at 4192 North Wheeler Street. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from a unit, and the flames quickly spreading across the property.
Recognizing the need for additional support, Lake Rayburn Volunteer Fire Department was toned out at 12:14 p.m., followed by East End Volunteer Fire Department at 12:23 p.m., as crews worked together to bring the fire under control.
Although the exact cause remains under investigation, Jasper Fire Chief Brandon Duckworth stated the fire may have started in a unit containing stored batteries.
At least 10 storage units were destroyed in the blaze. Among the damaged property were large household appliances, dining furniture, a pontoon boat, and even a motorhome.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported at this time.
East Texas Banner will continue to monitor this developing story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
