Assistance from the Jasper Texas Volunteer Fire Department was requested. Additional assistance from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office - TX was requested as a precaution in the event of needed evacuations.

The fire was quickly attacked and controlled in about 45 minutes. No structures were damaged.

The fire started from a tree debris burn pile that was burned approximately 1 week ago, spreading into the pasture.

At around 9:30 am we were dispatched to a tree debris fire on FM 2799. This fire was contained and not spreading. We extinguished it completely.

The debris pile was burned approximately 3 weeks ago and had rekindled.

We’re experiencing abnormal fire behavior for this time of the year. A combination of factors is leading to this that includes low humidity, strong winds, dry exposed vegetation from the freezes this winter, and lack of significant rainfall in the last few weeks.

Even though we’ve had a significant amount of rainfall in the recent past, the top layer of ground is starting to dry out.

The whole area is under a 🚩 red flag warning today. However we are not under a burn ban at this time.

Please do not burn anything for the near future.
