Be Swift to Hear, Slow to Speak, Slow to Wrath by Sal Moriarty

I read today Donald Trump (the Republican nominee for president, if you are unaware), posted, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” (caps are his) on his Truth Social account.

I was a bit surprised as I was unaware the former president is even into music. Ms. Swift's work must be significant for a man who regularly ponders the important issues of the world to take time out of his busy day to give her music a listen, then write a review.

I was curious as to whether Trump's opponent, Kamala Harris (the Democratic nominee for president, if you are unaware) has a similar interest in music. A friend sent me a link to a website, purportedly operated by Mrs. Harris, called ihateleegreenwood.com, but it just turned out to be a site set up by Mr. Greenwood's ex.

I'm encouraged by Mr. Trump's (newfound?) passion for music. If you are the man who might soon have your finger on the button, I would think it important to have a few hobbies. Perhaps, he should take up golf. I hear it can be quite relaxing. That said, I've also heard some men can become pretty obsessive about it, and the last thing we need is a president who spends most of his time on a golf course.

Some might disagree, but perhaps an occasional hand of poker would benefit Mr. Trump. It is a game of strategy, which might be advantageous on the world stage. There is, of course, the issue of gaming being destructive if taken to extremes. In addition, it might be detrimental to Mr. Trump's presidential hopes. I understand a large segment of his supporters are conservative Christians, who would never throw their support to someone who promotes gambling.

Philanthropy! While I'm sure the former president is a generous contributor to charity, he might create something to provide an education to those less fortunate. I've heard Mr. Trump has some experience in real estate. He could set up some kind of school, perhaps; a university, if you will, to teach what he knows about the business. I've heard helping others gives a person a feeling of well-being and can be a way to re-direct the mind from daily pressures. No one has more daily pressures than the President of the United States.

In any event, I am pleased to learn Mr. Trump is now engaged in something other than politics. Music, of course, hath charms to soothe the savage breast.

I would offer the suggestion that future reviews be a bit more expansive. What, exactly, did Mr. Trump find so unpleasant about Ms. Swift's music? Was he more into the country version of Ms. Swift and disappointed about her foray into pop music? If so, enlighten us. It's a valid point: the jury is still out on Ms. Swift's career since leaving country music behind a few years back.

That said - call me an old softy - I hope the brutal review of Taylor Swift doesn't prove too damaging to her career. She, basically, seems like a nice lady. It would be a shame to see a person devolve into obscurity in the coming months.
