Accident Thursday night near Buna ball park was not a fatality as some believed

As it sometimes happens, we were unable to get the information on this accident until just now. The following is the DPS report in its entirety;

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated a crash on state Highway 62, at the intersection of County Road 748, that occurred Thursday, April 18, 2024.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 7 p.m., a 2021 Ford Expedition was traveling south on S.H. 62. It is reported that the driver of a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling on C.R. 748 and failed to yield to the Ford at the stop intersection and pulled into its path, where the Ford struck the Chevrolet on its passenger side.

The driver of the Ford, identified as 42-year-old Amanda Smith of Buna, was transported to Altus Lumberton Hospital via private vehicle for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet, and three passengers, including a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old, were not injured. The driver is identified as 24-year-old Matthew Martin of Buna. Martin was cited for failing to yield right-of-way at a stop intersection.
