A massive wildfire on 1004 West threatened structures

Buna, Roganville, Trout Creek, and Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Departments alongside the Texas Forest Service are currently fighting a huge forest fire on Hwy 1004 West in Buna.

The call first went out at 1:51 p.m. Friday afternoon at 7069 FM 1004 West as a large brush and woods fire with structures in danger.

Buna Fire Chief Todd Walters said angrily, "I think they need to put the burn ban back on and I think that all the Commissioners that voted to lift it need to be out here helping us to fight fires!"

At the same time, Evadale Volunteer Fire Department was further down fighting a completely separate blaze.

Jasper, East End, Rayburn, and Tri-Community VFDs have all been dealing with fires also.

It is currently unknown what started the blaze, how many acres, or if any structures were lost.

We are currently awaiting a comment and information from Jasper County Judge Mark Allen.

ETB will update our readers once more information becomes available.
